“I first met Belinda Sallin in January 2012 when she asked me whether I was interested in producing her cinema documentary with and about HR Giger. Her project-dossier and her TV-documentaries convinced me and I believed that a film about this world-famous and exceptional Swiss artist had long since been due. So the two of us went to work.
I had known Li Tobler, HRG’s former girlfriend, from my time as a young cinematographer. HRG I knew but little - we had been part of similar circles in the late 60s and 70s. Getting to know the person behind these images interested me precisely because I had refused to turn my mind towards him in the past.
Parallel to an assiduous round of further project development we began with the financing. It was a tedious and at times disappointing process. In late summer, 2013, I decided to realise the film despite the unsatisfactory state of its financing. I was moved to do so by oncoming events, such as the exhibition in Linz and HRG’s health.
Today I'm glad of the fact. Belinda managed the difficult shoots with great dedication, persistency and sensitivity. To my mind the desired effect has been trumped. For this I thank Belinda and all those who contributed. Alone the fact that Hansruedi can no more see the film remains a bitter pill.”
Marcel Hoehn founded T&C Film in Zurich in 1976 and remains its managing director and producer for cinema, TV and documentary films. They include The Swissmakers by Rolf Lyssy; Hecate, Beresina by Daniel Schmid; Jeune Homme, Julia’s Disappearance by Christoph Schaub and cinema documantaries such as Il Bacio Di Tosca, The Written Face by D. Schmid; Bird’s Nest by Ch. Schaub/Michael Schindhelm; The Knowledge of Healing by Franz Reichle; Mother by Miklòs Gimes. Many of the films are international coproductions screened at large festivals and sold worldwide. In 1999 he was awarded the Zurich Film Award and in 2011 he received the Swiss Film Award Quartz for his work.
